Published in 2023, Unsolicited Greetings is a collection of postcard poems. Morgan Ray fell in love with the form's flexibility, which lends itself to spontaneous composition and can handle a wide range of subjects from wage inequality to climate change. Postcard from the Edge of a Terminal Lake paints a portrait of an unfolding environmental disaster. Postcard from the Backseat of Barbie's Convertible comments on wage inequality, pointing out that Barbie has earned "fifty cents to every Ken dollar.” The poems are perfect containers for humor as well as grief and express a wide tonal range. The wordplay and sonics beg to be enjoyed by reading them aloud.
This early collection of poems was published in 2013. These poems integrate the world of the imagination and the world we live in by juxtaposing ideas and images that jar the reader into considering how to live in both realities.
“Morgan Ray's poems are a searching, an exploring, a coming to terms. Who can't relate to the ambivalence children feel toward their parents and the searching for a fitting way to say ‘Goodbye?’”
—Colette Anderson Gill, author of Silk & Sting.
“Morgan’s poem, Saving Seeds, is thoughtful, even provocative and deals with a contemporary environmental issue in a clever way.”
—LeRoy Chatfield, Publisher, Syndic Literary Journal.
